Primary Purpose

To provide fast, easy, flexible and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous and cooperative with other store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to Front End Standard Practice Manual, maximizing sales through excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Smile and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience
  2. Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible
  3. Unload customers’ groceries from cart to belt; unload items for ease of bagging such as grouping cold items together
  4. Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order
  5. Follow correct bagging procedures for the correct use of bags by type
  6. Scan customers' order and handle the payment transaction, per standard practice
  7. Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present
  8. Follow procedures in handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps and WIC vouchers
  9. Follow procedures for refunds and error correction
  10. Maintain accurate cash control
  11. Follow procedures and perform overrides
  12. Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take the customer’s order to their car
  13. Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to service customers per service standards
  14. Check prices quickly and accurately
  15. Be courteous and helpful to other associates
  16. Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, complete with name badge, when on duty, with a neat and clean appearance adhering to dress code
  17. Retrieve shopping carts from parking lot and cart corrals using tether strap
  18. Ensure work station and front end area has a neat and clean presentation
  19. Report any register malfunction to the Customer Service Manager or MOD
  20. Ensure the MVP savings center KIOSK is filled with paper and functioning properly
  21. Adhere to all company policies and guidelines
  22. Observe and correct unsafe conditions
  23. Notify QA of cleaning or maintenance issues
  24. Complete computer-based training and courses
  25. Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  1. High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  2. Effective communication and customer service skills
  3. Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements
  4. Ability to perform cashier and service center tasks
  5. Meet minimum age requirements
  6. Ability to meet physical requirements with or without accommodations
Physical Requirements
  1. Use of computers and communication systems
  2. Perform repetitive motions
  3. Bend and lift up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, 50 lbs. occasionally
  4. Pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally
  5. Stand 100% of the time, walk short distances
  6. Handle substances related to cleaning, produce, and household items
  7. Use hands frequently for handling currency and operating equipment
  8. Reach and grasp at various levels
  9. Work in extreme temperatures for periods
  10. Visual ability to check IDs and documents
  11. Move bottles and containers as applicable
