Work under the supervision of the assigned Crew Leader to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment in the City’s parks, athletic fields, trail systems, medians and open spaces and to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and private sectors about special projects, events, and/or maintenance related concerns of the Citizens of The Colony.
- Work in conjunction with assigned crew leader to perform maintenance of the parks, athletic fields, medians, trails, and/or open space green belt areas of the City.
- Perform various park and building maintenance crew assignments such as: planting, trimming, and removal of trees and shrubs; turf maintenance; preparation of athletic fields for games; maintenance and repair of pitcher’s mounds, batter’s boxes, and skinned infield areas; building maintenance and repair; construction, maintenance and repair of fencing and fence structures.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems on athletic fields, parks, municipal grounds, and medians.
- Perform various mowing and trimming assignments such as: mowing of athletic field playing surfaces and common areas, edging and trimming around sidewalks, posts, utility poles, fences, and curbs; mowing and trimming of greenbelts and unused open spaces.
- Install playground equipment in various park locations; perform visual park and playground inspections and report any defects or problems to the appropriate person; perform maintenance and repairs to playground structures and equipment; maintain use zones.
- Perform litter control on athletic fields, parks, municipal grounds, and greenbelts.
- Clean and service vehicles and equipment as needed; prepare vehicles and tools for work assignments.
- Lift and carry up to 80 pounds of soil amendments, concrete, grass seed, and various other heavy items; climb a ladder while pruning, painting or changing light bulbs; operate various types of hand held power tools such as mowers, edgers, line trimmers, chain saws, rotary tillers, jackhammers, etc; work outside in extreme weather conditions (very hot or cold); some exposure to hazardous chemicals or fumes (with proper safety apparel); work in tight or enclosed areas such as trenches; work bent over on knees for extended periods of time; walk through bushes or entangled areas along lakes, creeks, and other areas; operate equipment such as mowers, utility vehicles, tractors (60 hp) with attachments such as augers, tillers, aerators, front end loaders, and backhoes.
- May be required to perform other department duties as assigned.
Follow instructions and safety policies; be able to work effectively with co-workers and other crews; ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and all levels of staff; good organizational skills and the ability to be creative and a self starter. Knowledge of sports turf, playground and irrigation systems maintenance and operations.
High School Diploma or GED. Valid Texas Drivers License. Background in athletic fields, parks, and/or landscape maintenance preferred.
