Job summary

Monmouth-Ocean Educational School District seeks a PT Paraprofessional (Instructional/Teacher’s Assistant) for Harbor School. The position supports K-5 students with instructional and behavioral goals, under the lead teacher and BCBA guidance.

Typically 8:15 a.m.–2:45 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid break, about 29.5 hours weekly. The role requires a High School Diploma and offers enrollment in the NJ State Pension System and the school calendar.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• 60+ college credits and/or Praxis Parapro test preferred.
• Experience with children in a school setting preferred.
• Basic computer and email skills.
• Ability to pass a criminal history check and prove eligibility to work in the U.S.
• English language communication proficiency.
• Alternatives to the above may be considered by the Superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Assist assigned students with dressing, mobility, bathroom needs, and daily tasks.
• Run simple errands for students (sharpen pencils, carry lunches, scribing).
• Collaborate with the teacher to support instructional goals and milestones.
• Under teacher supervision, reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
• Escort students between classes and help them stay engaged academically, socially, and emotionally.
• Establish professional relationships with students and maintain punctuality.
• Provide support for students with physical limitations as needed.
• Meet students at the bus and ensure safe transportation at start/end of day.
• Complete tasks as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Salary: $21.65/ hour

++QUALIFICATIONS:++

• High School Diploma (required)
• Sixty (60) or more college credits at an approved institution of higher education and/or proof of passing the Praxis Parapro Assessment Test (preferred)
• Preferred experience with children in a school setting.
• Good organizational skills.
• Basic knowledge of computer applications and email.
• Good interpersonal skills with children and adults.
• Ability to pass a criminal history check and show proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• Ability to communicate and have command of the English language.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or his/her designee may find appropriate and acceptable.

++REPORTS TO:++ Supervisor of Student Services or appropriate Administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

++PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:++

1. Assist the student(s) to whom assigned with physical tasks such as putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, using the lavatory, and toileting students when necessary.
2. Perform simple errands and tasks for student(s) such as sharpening pencils, carrying lunch trays, scribing, etc.
3. Work collaboratively with the teacher to help students reach their instructional goals and educational milestones.
4. Under the classroom teacher’s supervision, work with students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
5. Accompany student(s) to whom assigned from class to class around the building.
6. Assist and support students in reaching their academic, social, and emotional goals.
7. Make an effort to establish an appropriate and professional relationship with the student(s).
8. Maintain good attendance, appearance, and punctuality.
9. Assist students, as appropriate, when a student has physical limitations or is wheelchair-bound.
10. Meet student(s) at the school bus at the start of the student’s school day and ensure student(s) are safely placed on the school bus at the end of the day, when necessary.
11. Perform tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or his/ her designee.

The Paraprofessional must demonstrate physical strength, agility, and energy to perform essential job functions and to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all students and of self. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by the employee to perform the essential functions of the job: sitting, standing, reaching, walking, lifting, bending, crouching, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, finger dexterity, carrying, repetitive motions, speaking, listening, visual acuity, and the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Please Note: *Students are K-5 multiply disabled. Responsibilities include providing behavioral, academic, and social-emotional support under the direction of the lead teacher or BCBA. Diapering and toileting support may be required on an as-needed basis.

++TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time++ – 10 months

++EVALUATION:++ Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the MOESC’s board policy on evaluation of support personnel.
