Summary
The staff pianist serves as accompanist in the music program for private voice and instrument students. The staff pianist is expected to rehearse with students as needed and attend lessons periodically. They also accompany students at recitals and juried final exams.
Essential Functions

- Prepare piano accompaniment music to support and play with voice and instrument students.
- Attend applied lessons periodically (often 3 per student, per semester)
- Rehearse with students prior to lessons and performances
- Accompany students in student recitals and final performance exams
- Organize a schedule with students for lessons and performances
- Organize music necessary for preparation with students
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
- Associate’s degree
- 5 or more years of experience playing piano professionally
- Ability to sight-read piano music of all styles and genres
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and decision making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, preferably with piano study
- Experience working in higher education.
