Job summary

San Jacinto College Central Campus seeks a PT Non-Certified Tutor to deliver tutoring services at scheduled times, develop study skills, and maintain records. The tutor will adapt tutoring strategies to student needs and coordinate with faculty to obtain syllabi and materials.

This role requires CRLA level 1 within one year, strong communication, ability to work independently, and a 3.0 GPA in general courses with 3.5 in tutoring areas.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency in assigned discipline's subject matter (STEM Field).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Commitment to quality service to students.
• Ability and commitment to work collaboratively.
• Ability to work independently with little direct or continuous supervision.
• 3.0 General GPA and 3.5 in specific courses interested in tutoring.

Responsibilities

• Effectively delivers tutoring services to students at scheduled times (may be individual or group sessions).
• Posts and maintains a weekly schedule of available hours for student appointments
• Assists students with the development of study skills necessary for post-secondary education
• Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions
• Monitors and reviews student work. Modifies and personalizes tutoring strategies to accommodate the different learning styles and needs
• Facilitates the learning process by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress
• Interacts with SJC staff and/or faculty to obtain syllabi or materials and develop tutoring materials
• Delivers feedback as appropriate to staff and/or faculty regarding student progress
• Continues professional education through research and review of relevant material
• May assist with additional duties as needed (front desk, phones, organizing materials)
• Completes and submits required documents in an accurate and timely manner
• Active participation in departmental meetings
• Complete CRLA level 1 certification within one year of employment
• Responsible for other related duties as assigned

Duties
