Job summary

KTLA is seeking a PT Seasonal JIB & Handheld Camera Operator to capture compelling footage for News and other productions. You will set up, operate, and maintain JIB and handheld cameras, collaborating with the technical and news staff to satisfy production needs.

The role requires 2+ years of camera experience, ability to lift 25+ lbs, flexible hours, and adherence to union rules (IATSE). A JIB upgrade is available for relevant hours.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a Camera Operator, preferably JIB and Handheld.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to lift 25+ lbs. depending on set / strike studio gear.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
• Union position requiring IATSE membership.

Job description

The PT Seasonal - JIB & Handheld Camera Operator is responsible for getting shots using either a JIB or Handheld camera. This person will be responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining both types of cameras and equipment to create visually compelling footage for both News and other productions.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming
• Collaborate with news, production, and engineering teams to ensure smooth operations and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Follow directions from the director to get shots that help enhance the presentation of our news and other productions
• Actively contribute to SOP, workflow, and show report documentation.
• Adapt to last-minute changes and breaking news, making quick decisions under pressure.
• Other duties include Robotic Camera Operation for breaks and meals

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Must be organized and methodical
• 2+ years of experience as a Camera Operator, preferably JIB and Handheld experience
• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as news coverage demands.
• Must be able to lift 25+ lbs. depending on set / strike studio gear
• Fast learner and adaptive to new workflows and key commands
• Creative problem-solvingAble to perform all duties under high stress situations and conditions.
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
• This is a union position and requires the candidate to be a member of IATSE.

Compensation

$50.10 /hour+ commensurate with experience and skill level. There is a JIB upgrade for hours while working on the JIB.

This position is represented by IATSE and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. The successful candidate will need to be a member of IATSE or willing to join.
