Job summary

Midland College is seeking a part-time CDL instructor at the Main Campus in Midland, TX. You will train students to obtain a Commercial Driver's License, following established curriculum and daily assignments while adapting to learner needs.

You will assess driving abilities for on-the-road instruction, maintain accurate records, and ensure safety and compliance with DOT regulations. A valid Texas Class A CDL and DOT drug test clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three years experience driving 'over the road' (OTR) or local.
  • Experience in pre-trip/post-trip inspections, coupling, and uncoupling of equipment.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Double Clutching techniques and how to teach them as required by TXDPS.
  • Knowledge of air brake testing procedures and be able to instruct and execute.
  • Knowledge of Hours of Service Regulations and be able to log and teach log book entries as well as log book recap.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while providing close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in cooperation with others and work a flexible schedule based on training needs.
  • Maintain a high level of record keeping, utilize creativity, and meet frequent deadlines.
  • Establish goals and maintain a high level of decision making.
  • Adaptable to a constantly changing environment.
  • Must successfully pass a DOT physical and drug test.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" CDL, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College's policy

  • Maintain a professional teaching environment, utilize patience when teaching, and maintain student confidentiality.
  • Increase overall course evaluation ratings.
  • Inspect each truck and trailer used that day in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Prepare an inspection report for the Lead Trainer daily.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working and learning area.
  • Counsel students and discuss issues from training.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of Hours of Service Regulations and be able to log and teach log book entries as well as log book recap
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while providing close attention to detail
  • Ability to work in cooperation with others and work a flexible schedule based on training needs

  • Ability to move or lift/move up to 75 pounds, capable of climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, and repetitive twisting

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in driving instruction
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and pull hands overhead
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • Capable of climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, and repetitive twisting
  • Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug test
