Position Summary

The Gun Vault Specialist is responsible for backroom maintenance of all processes pertaining to firearms. This role requires safe handling of firearms and adherence to all company, state, and federal firearms regulations. Responsibilities include acquiring and disposing of firearms, maintaining an accurate firearms inventory in accordance with ATF regulations, and providing customer service at the firearm counter and other hunting merchandise sections. The role involves greeting customers, handling merchandise carefully, and assisting in product information and sales.

Essential Functions
  1. Receive and verify incoming firearms daily using ARMS systems, ensuring accuracy from receipt to documentation.
  2. Dispose of firearms shipped to licensed dealers or stored in the store, verifying disposition data fed from Electronic 4473 to ARMS daily.
  3. Conduct monthly firearms audits.
  4. Complete ATF and state forms for background checks, ensuring legal compliance and preventing straw purchases.
  5. Participate in ongoing training on firearms, systems, compliance, and sales techniques.
  6. Handle firearms safely, including storage, cleaning, preparation for sale, packaging, and shipping, in compliance with laws and company policies.
  7. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work area.
  8. Provide excellent customer service, assisting customers with product selection and promoting store programs.
  9. Demonstrate firearms and organize firearms displays within the store.
  10. Ensure visual merchandising standards are met and maintain cleanliness and proper signage.
  11. Respond promptly to ATF or state firearm trace requests.
  12. Assist in training store staff as needed.
  13. Maintain product knowledge through ongoing training.
  14. Follow all company policies and perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 to 4 years retail experience
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Legal ability to own and possess firearms under federal and state law
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of compliance regulations and confidentiality
  • Customer service and sales skills for firearms and hunting merchandise
  • Knowledge of GCA, ARMS, firearms, ammunition, and ATF regulations
  • Inventory control expertise
  • Ability to handle firearms safely
  • Retail and computer skills
  • Merchandise handling and stocking abilities

Physical Requirements: Walking, standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, computer work; seldom sitting.

Independent Judgment: Performs duties within company policies, analyzes problems, exercises judgment, and makes policy recommendations.
