Job summary

Gadsden Elementary School District 32 is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain attractive and safe school grounds and athletic fields. The role includes keeping irrigation systems in good repair, maintaining groundskeeping equipment, and assisting with events and activities on campus.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and carries responsibilities for safety, preventative maintenance, and timely completion of tasks during the school year (212 days).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Experience with groundskeeping or similar maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans outdoor areas (e.g. parking lot, basketball courts, sports fields, landscaped areas) for a safe environment.
• Maintains irrigation systems and components to ensure proper operation.
• Maintains groundskeeping equipment to keep it in safe working order.
• Monitors site activity to prevent injuries and ensure safety.
• Plants landscaping materials to keep grounds attractive and erosion-protected.
• Prepares grounds and athletic fields for assemblies, events, and activities.
• Requests materials and equipment to complete assignments on time.
• Responds to safety or operational concerns and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Transports tools and supplies to site to ensure availability.

Purpose Statement

The job of Groundskeeper is done for the purpose/s of providing grounds maintenance services at assigned site/s; ensuring attractive and safe grounds area/s and athletic fields; protecting against erosion; performing a variety of special grounds maintenance operations; and maintaining grounds for assemblies, events and/or recreational activities. This job reports to Skilled Maintenance.

The job of Groundskeeper is done for the purpose/s of providing grounds maintenance services at assigned site/s; ensuring attractive and safe grounds area/s and athletic fields; protecting against erosion; performing a variety of special grounds maintenance operations; and maintaining grounds for assemblies, events and/or recreational activities. This job reports to Skilled Maintenance.

Essential Functions

• Cleans outdoor areas (e.g. parking lot, basketball courts, sports fields, landscaped areas, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a beautiful and safe learning environment.
• Maintains irrigation systems and components (e.g. installs/repairs valves, wiring, timers, switches, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring equipment and/or components are in proper working order.
• Maintains job related grounds keeping equipment (e.g. saws, mowers, tree trimmers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring for the availability of equipment in a safe operating condition.
• Monitors students and staff in and around school (e.g. drop-offs and pick-ups, special events on school grounds, etc.) for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety.
• Plants a variety of landscaping materials (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, flowers, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the grounds attractive and protecting against erosion.
• Prepares grounds and athletic fields (e.g. fertilizes soil, courtyards, flower beds, chalk fields, paint stripping, etc.) for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies, recreational activities and/or athletic events.
• Requests materials, supplies, equipment, and/or support personnel (e.g. lifts/shredders for tree trimming, parts for sprinklers, seeding/manure/plants for landscaping, etc.) for the purpose of completing assignments in a timely manner.
• Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Transports a variety of tools, equipment, supplies, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

Experience

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Clearances

Salary

$16.00Hr

Working Calendar Year
