The Manheim Central School District is hiring a PT Food Service Assistant for the Baron Elementary School cafeteria to start with us in August 2025.
The Food Service Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the school district's food service program. This includes preparing and serving meals, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and assisting with inventory and record-keeping. The role requires a collaborative and customer-focused approach to ensure students receive nutritious and delicious meals in a safe and welcoming environment.
Essential Functions
- Serves meals in a timely and friendly manner to students and staff in accordance with National School Lunch and Breakfast Program guidelines.
- Operates and maintains primary kitchen equipment.
- Assists in food preparation as required using standardized recipes.
- Complies with kitchen sanitation and safety standards in accordance with ServSafe guidelines and USDA regulations.
- Follows kitchen clean-up schedule after meal service.
- Operates and maintains Point of Sale Program.
- Participates in required trainings and meetings.
- Maintains accurate documentation for production records.
- Assists with special functions, catering, and other school functions as required.
- Follows all safety and sanitation regulations and supervisory directives. Wears appropriate footwear and gloves when needed, as well as mandatory hair coverings.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
- Maintains an optimum relationship with students and staff by being courteous and mindful of confidentiality. Promotes a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in the dining area.
Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements
- Walk/Stand: 100% (walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching)
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
Regular Lifting
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently.
Occasional Lifting
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Additional Physical Requirements
- Ability to push or pull carts loaded with food or supplies.
- Manual dexterity to handle kitchen tools and equipment safely.
- Normal vision and hearing to communicate effectively in a noisy environment.
- Ability to evaluate, interpret, and analyze written and verbal communications. Basic math skills.
- Environment: Normal, fast-paced cafeteria environment with exposure to heat and steam during peak times. Dress appropriately and stay hydrated.
This is a 10-month position with hours from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
