Description
Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are searching for a Part-Time Custodian who will be driving on the job. Reporting to the Parks and Planning Division Manager, the Part-Time Custodian will perform custodial maintenance of District buildings and facilities. The PT Custodian must be at least 18 years old and able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The PT Custodian can expect to work 16 - 20 hours a week, and shifts will include evening and weekend hours. The starting pay for the Part-Time Custodian (driving) is $16.00 per hour. Park District employees also receive facility privileges.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Perform Custodial maintenance in the upkeep of building, including painting, cleaning, striping, waxing floors, cleaning restrooms, replenishing supplies, emptying trash, and light bulb replacement. Maintain the knowledge, skills, and physical ability necessary for operating cleaning equipment (manual and mechanized) and for cleaning
and sanitizing any areas of the building as assigned.
Responsible for physical set up and take down of rooms (i.e. furniture, chairs, etc.) for various parks programs and rentals. Maintain the knowledge, skills, and physical ability necessary for physical set up and take down of rooms.
Report building and site maintenance problems to the Facility Manager or the Buildings Department Manager.
Keep grounds free of litter and debris.
Perform exterior maintenance as needed on a year-round basis.
Perform other duties as needed to maintain the facility at the standards established by the Facility Manager.
Be familiar with and abide by Park District policies and procedures.
Participate in the Park District’s safety training programs.
Evening and weekend coverage is an essential part of this position.
Be able to drive between facilities for work purposes.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Perform additional duties as assigned which may be considered essential.
All other duties as assigned by the Parks and Planning Division Manager, Director of Parks and Planning, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, or any combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge and skill for this position.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have reliable transportation.
Must possess knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment and procedures.
Must be able to physically perform all custodial-related duties.
Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for the coordination of work, for safety purposes and for emergency situations. Must be able to understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions.
Must be able to exhibit patience and understanding with patrons, staff and the general public. Must be able to work well with others including fellow staff and patrons of the park district. Must also be able to work independently and with limited supervision.
Must be able to abide by Park District policies and procedures.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays. May be required to work special events from time to time. Working when scheduled is an essential part of the Custodian position.
PHYSICAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Physical Job Qualifications: Must be physically able to: frequently ascend/descend more than a 25% grade, lift 50 lbs. from a squat position, push/pull, reach, walk; occasionally balance, bend (must be able to bend at waist and touch the floor with fingertips), climb, crawl, crouch, kneel for long periods of time, sit, stoop; and constantly handle objects.
The general office work area is an indoor, smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. May be exposed to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in work areas. Additionally, may be exposure to cleaning materials.
When outdoors, may be exposed to weather conditions including rain, sun, wind, high humidity, and excessive heat and cold. Must be able to work in inclement weather as needed.
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours will be required. The work schedule may vary and the work week may exceed regular hours at times, but will work less than 1,000 hours per year.
