Job description

The Corners Coach reports directly to the Head Coach and plays a key role in supporting the success of the
football program. This position is responsible for mentoring student athletes both on and off the field, fostering
their development to help them reach their full potential. The Corners Coach works alongside the Head Coach to
build a program that is proud of its accomplishments and positively impacts the University, students, alumni, and
the surrounding community. Key responsibilities include assisting in the recruitment of student-athletes, managing
various program operations (such as practice, competitions, travel, and purchasing), and ensuring compliance
with all institutional, conference, and regulatory policies. The Corners Coach will maintain up-to-date knowledge
of recruiting rules and regulations and contribute to the overall management of the program as assigned by the
Head Coach, including specific duties related to team logistics and player development.

Essential Job Functions:
• Travels to meet and observe potential student athletes, evaluates potential student athletes,
communicates with potential student athletes, coaches, parents, and guardians to promote Shaw
University and the athletics program, writes letters, makes phone calls, and maintains general
correspondence with potential student athletes to build reports and promote general interest in the
program.
• Maintains current sport-specific technical and coaching knowledge, develops existing members of the
program, assists in the organization of practice plans, competition, communicates and demonstrates
specific required skills.
• Adheres to all institutional, Conference and all other rules, regulations and policies.
• Acts as a liaison to help coordinate community service involvement.
• Assists Head coach in all academic matters pertaining to the team, including instructing/teaching student
athletes in the fundamentals of the sport.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning with prior participation
experience in collegiate athletics; Master’s degree preferred.
• 2-5 years’ coaching experience at the college level is preferred or equivalent combination of education
and experience
• Demonstrated ability to coach, teach and mentor student athletes, required.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, maintain a clean driving record.
• Must be responsive, quick-thinking, and possess an innate ability to anticipate and respond to issues.
• Establish priorities, and work in an organized manner with emphasis on detail and accuracy.
• The ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments and meet competing deadlines.

Physical Demands
The work environment is an athletic and office setting which requires the ability to travel much of the time, work
long hours including evenings and weekends, be physically active, able to lift up to 50 pounds, and have the
ability to demonstrate specific skills.
