Job summary

Boone County Schools at New Haven Elementary School is seeking a Custodian for the 6pm–10pm shift. Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe environment for students and staff, you will perform routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and general housekeeping to support daily school operations.

You must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to lift 50 pounds, with a focus on safety and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Follow written guidelines and directives from supervisor
• Keep building and premises neat and clean at all times
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning for comfort and efficiency
• Shovel, plow, and maintain walks, driveways, and parking areas
• Check exits and panic hardware during occupancy
• Raise and lower the U.S. flag on school days
• Sweep, mop, wash, and vacuum floors and fixtures
• Clean corridors after school and as needed during the day
• Disinfect toilet floors and clean fixtures daily
• Remove waste and trash from the building
• Wash windows at least twice a year
• Perform yard keeping to maintain safety and attractiveness
• Clean chalkboards weekly
• Maintain floors in good condition
• Report damages to the Principal immediately
• Remain on premises during work hours and as required
• Open and close the building daily and manage utilities
• Move furniture as directed for activities
• Comply with waste storage procedures
• Make minor repairs (chairs, desks, locks)
• Daily kitchen cleaning and waste removal
• Shelve deliveries in proper storage
• Perform other duties as assigned

REPORTS TO: Principal

J0B GOAL:

To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, develop, and eat, and to provide staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place to teach and eat

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be familiar with and follow written guidelines, policies, procedures and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilities
• Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times
• Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity
• Shovel, plow, and maintain walks, driveways and parking areas, as appropriate
• Check daily to ensure that all exits are open and all panic hardware is working properly during the hours of building occupancy
• Raise the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day and lower it at assigned time
• Sweep, Mop, Wet-wash, and vacuum floors, and furniture and clean and polish fixtures and glass on schedule in assigned areas
• Clean corridors after school each day and during the day when conditions require it
• Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily and during the day when conditions require it
• Remove waste and trash from building
• Wash all windows on both sides at least twice each year
• Perform such yard keeping as necessary to maintain safe and attractive environment
• Clean all chalkboards at least once a week
• Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
• Report immediately to the Principal any damage to school property
• Remain on the school premises during school work hours, and during non-school hours when attendance is required by the Principal
• Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each day including lights, heat, windows and doors
• Move furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities as directed by the Principal or designee
• Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
• Make minor repairs such as chairs, desks, and locks
• Perform daily cleaning of kitchen including waste and trash removal
• Shelve all deliveries in appropriate storage—dry, refrigerated or frozen
• Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
