Job summary

Northstar Mental Health Services is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Professional to provide psychotherapy within a residential/high-contact care setting in Minnesota. You will maintain client records, complete screenings and assessments, and work on co-occurring disorders with an interdisciplinary team.

The role requires MN licensure (LP/LICSW/LMFT/LPCC), master's degree, and credentialing eligibility, plus strong DSM-V knowledge and documentation discipline.

Qualifications

• Must be a Licensed Mental Health Professional in Minnesota (LP/LICSW/LMFT/LPCC) or provisionally licensed or clinical trainee.
• Must be eligible to credential with insurers.
• Minimum requirement of a master's degree.
• Demonstrate competent use of DSM-V and evidence‑based approaches.
• CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Two years of freedom from chemical use problems.
• Must pass a drug screen.
• Must pass a Minnesota background check.
• Must possess a valid Minnesota driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office and other computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to Minnesota statutes, codes of ethics, insurance requirements, and Northstar policies.
• Maintain resident/client records per policy requirements.
• Complete continuing education to maintain licensure per Minnesota requirements.
• Attend in-house and inter-department trainings and meetings.
• Hold a caseload and provide psychotherapy from initial assessment to termination.
• Coordinate care with all members of the client care team.

Job description

Purpose Statement

Northstar Mental Health Services works alongside the rest of the Northstar team in providing mental health services to those experiencing emotional distress and other mental health concerns that are interfering with their lives and overall well-being. Our integrated team of professionals work with clients individually, couples, with family, and in group settings. We are looking for individuals that possess the ability to provide psychotherapy to clients and help them to become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive.

Key Result Areas

• For residential clients, fulfill the mental health component of the co-occurring licensure requirements, which includes completing the initial mental health screen of all new clients within the first 3 days of arrival into program (GAIN-SS), and subsequently completing the diagnostic assessment (DA) within 10 days.
• Maintain a minimum of 25 direct client contact hours per week (for full time), or averaging at least 60% of available time as direct client contact if part time. This will include a combination of 1:1 or group psychotherapy, as well as facilitating co-occurring substance use groups.
• Complete all substance use documentation within the day of service, and mental health documentation within 72 hours of rendering the service.
• Fulfill expectations on maintaining documentation tracking of clients in the residential site.
• Attend weekly multidisciplinary clinical staffing meetings.
• Attend weekly departmental clinical consultation meetings.
• Number of grievances/maltreatment reports is no greater than 1 per month.
• Pass quarterly peer review internal documentation review process

Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Essential Functions)

• Adhering to MN State Statutes, code of ethics, insurance requirements, and Northstar's policy and procedures.
• Maintain resident/client records in accordance with Northstar's policy requirements.
• Complete continuing education courses in current treatment concepts and methods as required by the State of Minnesota to maintain professional license.
• Attend in-house training, all scheduled Northstar/Bridges staff meetings, and consultations.
• Hold a caseload of clients, providing all components of a psychotherapeutic episode of care from DA through termination.
• Coordinate care with all providers that are on the client's care team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience: (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge skills and abilities)

• Must be a Licensed Mental Health Professional in the State of Minnesota to be considered for the position. ( LP, LICSW, LMFT, and/or LPCC) provisionally licensed (LPC, LAMFT, LCSW) or qualify as a clinical trainee.
• Must be eligible to be credentialed with insurers
• Minimum requirement of a masters degree.
• Demonstrate competent use of DSM-V and evidence based approaches
• CPR Certification or attain within 30 days of hire (in-house training available).
• Must have two years of freedom from chemical use problems.

• Training or certification in evidence-based modalities such as CBT, ACT, SFBT, DBT, EMDR, Brain Spotting, etc.
