Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a Level II Psychologist to provide direct clinical care and psychological services in its pediatric inpatient service CAP'S. You will perform crisis and psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team under licensed supervision.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

SPECIAL NOTE # = Additional Requirements for Assignment Level II (Effective September 25, 1998)
A. A Doctoral Degree in clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology, awarded upon completion of a Doctoral Program in Psychology registered by the New York State Department of Education and designated as licensure qualifying; and
B. One additional year of satisfactory full-time experience, either as a Psychologist for the City of New York, or in a supervisory capacity in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology or Neuro-Psychology in an approved agency or institution. Employees who complete their Doctoral Degree requirements on or after October 1, 1992 must have at least one year of qualifying experience gained after the completion of all Doctoral Degree requirements; and

* Effective September 25, 1998, appointments to Assignment Level II require 1) a Ph.D. as outlined in A above; and 2) one year of qualifying experience as outlined in B above.
C. License Requirements for Assignment Level II
1. In the New York City Departments of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and
Alcoholism Services, Police and Fire, and those programs functionally transferred to the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation from the New York City Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education.
2. In agencies not noted in C. (1.) above, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education within one year of the date of assignment. At the discretion of the appointing agency, the period to obtain the license may be extended for up to six months for employees who fail to obtain the license within one year of their assignment. Once obtained, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.

Duties & Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direction of a supervisor and/or clinic director, a Level Il Psychologist is to provide direct assessment, evaluations, and treatment to behavioral health patients and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in planning and providing care in various modalities under the supervision of a licensed psychologist/psychiatrist in the behavioral health BH child adolescent psychiatric inpatient service (CAP'S). A Level Il Psychologist at CAPIS may also participate in the predoctoral externship and internship training program in clinical psychology by providing supervision to doctoral externs and/or interns.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To Provide direct clinical patient care and psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist/psychiatrist in various modalities, including, individual psychotherapy, family therapy, group therapy
  • To conduct crisis assessments, diagnostic and psychosocial assessments
  • To maintain accurate, timely, and suitable clinical documentation, records, and files or test results
  • To develop appropriate treatment plans for patients and monitor progress
  • To serve as an active member of an interdisciplinary treatment team and consult with other disciplinaries regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and recommendations for the disposition of individual cases
  • To attend and participate in all clinic and departmental staff meetings
  • May supervise the work of psychology externs, social workers, and paraprofessional mental health workers
  • May participate and contribute to research projects and program development
  • Other duties as assigned.
