9:00 A.M – 5:00 P.M

Responsibilities
  • Valid license and current registration to practice as a Psychologist issued by the NYSED.
  • Two (2) years of post-licensure experience, one (1) year of which must have been post-licensure supervisory experience; or three (3) years of post-licensure experience.
  • Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory training within three (3) months of appointment.
Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position:

This class of positions encompasses professional and/or supervisory work of varying degrees of difficulty in the field of psychology, providing psychological services to individuals and groups across various settings, including Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics (FPECC), which may include participation in the process of commitment of patients to institutional care. Ensures patient-centered quality care and services in support of better outcomes and improved patient experience, in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and psychology standards of care. All personnel perform related work.

Assignment Level I:

  • Through clinical interviewing and/or through the selection, administration and interpretation of standard group and individual tests of personality development and intellectual capacity, evaluates individuals' emotional and intellectual functioning.
  • Maintains suitable records and files of test performance and treatment results.
  • Prepares reports of psychological findings which may be included in clinical case histories, files, etc.
  • Consults with psychiatrists, social workers, judges and other relevant parties regarding the diagnoses, prognoses and recommendations for disposition of individual cases.
  • Attends and may participate in psychological and general staff conferences.
  • Participates in individual and group research by evaluating initial summarization and quantitative treatment of data, preparing research reports for publication.
  • May be required to provide psychological consultation services on non-clinical issues, and may offer psychological consultation services to other City agencies.
  • May participate in treatment programs administering psychotherapy.
  • May provide neuro-psychological and vocational assessments.
  • May prepare commitment papers, including write-ups and documentation for cases.
  • May give instruction or training in psychodiagnostic and/or therapeutic techniques.
  • May oversee the work of psychology interns, social workers and paraprofessional mental health workers.
  • May do research on test development. May contribute to formulation of hypotheses and details of research design.
  • May be required to testify in court or at other hearings.

Assignment Level II:

  • Supervises the work of unlicensed psychologists and other subordinate staff in the areas of diagnosis, therapy, and research, and coordinates their activities with the work of other professional workers.
  • Evaluates and develops habilitation plans and treats individuals for addictions, cognitive impairments, and neuropsychological disorders.
  • Administers therapy in difficult atypical cases, which may include individual, group and family counseling and/or therapy.
  • Coordinates training programs and conducts case conferences and seminars for training purposes.
  • Gives formal and informal instruction to psychologists and psychologists-in-training on diagnostic, therapeutic and research techniques.
  • Conducts in-service training programs by organizing and staffing conferences and seminars, drawing up curricula, and evaluating efficiency of programs.
  • May perform relevant clinical professional activities.
  • May be part of a 24-hour trauma team providing counseling/evaluation at crisis situations within the New York metropolitan area.
  • May work with City's Family Court System to conduct assessments for termination of parental rights, custody disputes, neglect and abuse cases.
  • May provide evaluations of fitness to proceed and pre-sentencing evaluations to Criminal Courts.

Additional Tasks:

  • Plans, organizes and supervises psychological service programs and/or units and participates in the development of program objectives.
  • Advises on kinds of services to be rendered, areas to be emphasized, and utilization of psychological services to help meet overall program objectives.
  • Consults with administrative and/or medical staff regarding general policies which affect psychological services.
  • Supervises the work of psychologists and psychology staff and acts as a consultant to them on problems they encounter.
  • Allocates time and number of staff to various psychological activities.
  • Initiates programs and writes grant proposals to receive independent funding for the programs.
  • Develops and conducts internship training programs for graduate students in clinical psychology.
  • Represents psychological services to, and speaks before, lay and professional organizations.
