Job summary

Parkland Health in Dallas is seeking a Psychologist to provide psychological evaluations for mental and emotional disorders. Job description

Primary Purpose

Provides psychological evaluation and diagnoses for mental and emotional disorders of individuals through observation, interview, and psychological tests. Formulates and administers programs of treatment.

Qualifications

Education: Must have a Doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA accredited university and have completed an internship with an APA accredited program.

Certification/Registration/Licensure: Must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

Required Specialized Skills or Abilities
  • Specialized area of service (child, palliative, pain, addictions, corrections, etc.).
  • Explicit training, supervision, and clinical experience or certification working directly in the specialty area, including practicum, internship, post‑doctoral training, and/or fellowship.
  • Significant experience working with a variety of cases from start to finish.
  • Sound knowledge of the development of the symptoms being treated.
  • Trained in evidence‑based specialized treatments (EBSTs); certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with Clinical Psychology and competency in basic psychological assessment techniques, psychotherapeutic intervention, family systems, and developmental orientation.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in meeting age‑related and handicapped patients' needs.
  • Patient‑centered/value‑based behaviors.
  • Preferred: Spanish proficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to policy and practice guidelines for the specialty area by evaluating best practices and treatment outcomes.
  • Serve as a member/leader of interdisciplinary team in specialty area and participate in planning and development of treatment programs for patients.
  • Educate the larger Parkland community about services and best practices related to the specialty area.
  • Provide psychological assessments through personal interview, review of records, interviews of third parties and/or formal evaluation procedures and make/classify mental health diagnosis, identify problems, and determine plan of intervention to optimize psychological service to internal and external customers of PHHS.
  • Assist in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Provide psychological treatment to aid patients in relieving emotional distress/psychiatric symptoms, clarify goals, expand social support networks, and find adaptive solutions.
  • Collaborate with referring providers/professional colleagues to better understand and address patients' psychological and social needs; may refer to external or other internal service providers/clinics for appropriate continuation or follow‑up care.
  • Maintain a thorough written record of all therapy/counseling sessions, including comprehensive reports addressing patient’s presenting problems and current needs, and documentation of all relevant information/contacts while observing confidentiality laws.
  • Identify and analyze counseling designs, interventions, assessments, medical and psychological referrals, patient access, and processes; modify approach, communication, and interaction to accommodate sensory impairments and specific needs of all customers, including older adults.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in clinical psychology by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations.
  • Serve on various committees and participate in clinical staff meetings for collective problem‑solving activities, maintaining a positive and cooperative atmosphere with internal/external customers.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines; develop effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws and program requirements of accreditation agencies and health plans.
