Job Summary

The Corrections Psychologist at Camden County DOC will be responsible for the delivery of psychotherapy, diagnostic, and therapeutic services in a contract facility. The Psychologist will also act as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and a liaison with other medical disciplines. The Psychologist will ensure that psychotherapy treatment services are delivered to inmate patients in a timely and effective manner, achieving desired patient outcomes while maintaining the established guidelines.

• Adheres to PREA regulations.
• Maintains security clearance for the assigned facility.
• Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication with supervising staff.

Position Responsibilities

• Performs and documents routine psychiatric intakes, assessments and evaluations on inmate patients referred by the nursing/professional staff of the assigned correctional facility consistent with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards of care, American Psychological Association (APA), NJ 10-A, American Correctional Association (ACA) and Performance Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS) as appropriate.
• Diagnoses and treats mental illness, conducts psychological assessment/testing, psychological evaluations, and crisis intervention.
• Supports and provides direction for the psychiatric and behavioral health care delivery system and coordinates with other functions within the institution.
• Meets regularly with the site mental health and medical staff for mental health issues as requested.
• Conducts individual and group psychotherapy.
• Contributes to behavioral health program development, policies, and evaluation.
• Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
• Promotes a therapeutic environment to ensure inmate patients are treated in a professional, ethical and tactful manner.
• Confer with patient’s relatives regarding illness and treatments.
• Collaborates with Advanced Practice Nurses.
• Designates the level of care to be performed and the necessary equipment needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

• Completion from an accredited medical school facility with a degree in Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor Psychology (Psy.D.).
• Current, unrestricted license to practice psychology in the state (maintain a current copy of license on file at the facility at all times).

Minimum Work Experience

• Experience with mental health delivery systems.
• Previous professional experience in the mental field that indicates knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders and psychological evaluation techniques, including psychological assessment instruments.
