Position Description

Under the general direction of the Clinical Director provide psychological evaluations for clients in HFLW programs and in schools as well as consultations to parents and team members. Make recommendations regarding treatment and necessary services. Additionally, provide age-appropriate, culturally sensitive therapy for clients and families in a variety of settings such as clinic, schools, homes and community programs.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain a balance of testing and therapy cases, as agreed upon by the Assessment Specialist and Clinical Director
  • Conduct psychological evaluations that assess client’s level of functioning including neuropsychological, intellectual and emotional development, presence of learning disabilities, behavioral problems and need for psychopharmalogical intervention. Interpret results and produce written reports.
  • Provide consultations, in the form of feedback to parents, multi-disciplinary team members, teachers, school staff and/or other service providers regarding the results of psychological testing. Make recommendations and provide information to guide educational and treatment planning.
  • Assist with the training of clinical staff and interns on the use and interpretation of psychological tests
  • Provide case management services; act as a liaison with collateral agencies and programs; establish and maintain relationships/services that support children and family growth. Act as an advocate for families; educate parents on advocating for themselves and their children.
  • Utilize treatment modalities that are consistent with program goals and agency protocol and that best fit with clients’ age and treatment needs, including play/expressive therapy, individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy.
  • Perform initial assessments and evaluations of new clients and families. Identify treatment needs and barriers to growth and development. Design treatment plans that address needs and specify outcomes. Collaborate with clients and family members to develop treatment objectives. Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide quality care. Attend staff meetings and case conferences; present client material. Consult with supervisor and team members on challenging or difficult client issues. Facilitate communication between various providers.
  • Submit reports, documentation (including testing reports) and billing in a timely manner. Ensure that documentation meets utilization review and quality assurance standards.
  • Attend in-service trainings and outside seminars to enhance and develop clinical skills
  • For programs receiving third party payment, must meet billable productivity targets and expectations set by program management
  • May assist with interviewing candidates for clinical positions
  • May interface with insurance companies and service providers on behalf of clients to negotiate/advocate for services
  • May be required to carry a mobile device or laptop
  • May be required to travel to schools or other settings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Driving Requirements

  • May be required to operate a vehicle
  • May be required to have a valid driver’s license and a “satisfactory” driving record
  • May be required to have access to a personal vehicle for use during work hours

Education And Experience

  • Requires a Masters Degree in Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology and a minimum of one year experience in the field
  • Candidates must have practical experience in psychological assessment and therapeutic intervention across the lifespan
  • Computer literate including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer with the ability to learn new software applications
