WINSLOW UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 1 POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Employment classification: exempt, certified

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid State of Arizona School Psychologist Certificate.
  • Masters degree in Psychology or related field.
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card.

Overview of Job Description: Position involves cooperatively working with multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to teachers, administrators, counselors, parents, and paraprofessionals. The position involves supporting current behavioral interventions at all school sites and facilitating the process of proper behavioral interventions and education. A focus on a multi-tiered approach that develops healthy social connections is expected, as well as assisting in the evaluation of students to identify social and academic related issues or disabilities. The position also teaches students skills related to personal well-being, self-advocacy, developing healthy relationships, and making responsible decisions.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Follows local, state and federal law and adheres to State Department of Education and Local School Board Policy.
  • Provide support to teachers and staff to ensure adherence to proper behavior interventions in schools throughout the district.
  • Conducts formal initial evaluations and assessments related to behavior and/or academics to determine special education eligibility as needed.
  • Conducts formal reevaluations and assessments for special education students as needed.
  • Conducts functional behavior assessments and implements behavior intervention plans as needed.
  • Participates in child study team meetings, multidisciplinary evaluation team meetings, and IEP meetings.
  • Participates in manifestation determination meetings.
  • Acts as a delegate between the school, students, home, private counseling facilities and community resources such as social services, court services, and family service agencies.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate student data and records.
  • Supports and collaborates with the Behavioral Specialist, which includes assistance with the school focus zones and behavioral interventions.
  • Provide therapy/counseling to students.
  • Confers and coordinates with teachers, staff and students.
  • Participates in PLC meetings when needed.
  • Serves as a resource to teachers and staff as it pertains to academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with other staff members in developing professional development related to social emotional learning for teachers and staff.
  • Attends faculty meetings.
  • Performs other job relevant duties as assigned.

Reports to: Special Education Director

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year to be established by the Board. Salary is determined by individual training and experience level on approved salary schedule.
