Job description

This position allows you to make a meaningful impact by guiding inmates through important steps in their emotional growth at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Cambridge Springs. This position focuses on providing counseling, conducting evaluations, and supporting inmates with emotional and behavioral needs. It plays a key role in promoting safe adjustment and effective treatment within the institution. As a Psychological Services Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Counseling Services: Provide individual and group therapy using techniques that support behavior change and emotional management
  • Assessment Work: Conduct interviews, administer tests, interpret results, and prepare psychological reports
  • Care Coordination: Consult with other departments and agencies to support delivery of mental health services
  • Program Support: Assist in research efforts designed to strengthen psychological services and treatment outcomes
  • Intern Guidance: Provide direction and practical experience to student interns completing psychological training
  • Crisis Response: Offer immediate intervention for inmates in assessment housing units during urgent situations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM on Sunday, and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
    • Additional pay will be considered for those who currently possess or obtain licensure as a Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Counselors. Documentation will need to be provided at interview to receive additional pay consideration.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • A master's degree in psychology or a closely related field that includes fifteen graduate level credits in psychology or counseling.

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
