Job Posting Description
This Resource Specialist will be responsible for:
- Working directly with clinical teams, payers, state agencies, behavioral health facilities, and community providers to facilitate patient care transitions safely and efficiently.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary team members and external resources to determine psychiatric level-of-care dispositions.
- Completing psychiatric discharge planning tasks, including bed searches, referrals for partial hospitalization, in-home therapy, inpatient, CBAT, residential, and specialized clinics.
- Assessing patient insurance plans and benefits, such as MassHealth eligibility, via electronic systems.
- Documenting all work accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Serving as a resource for families and clinicians regarding insurance coverage, benefits, and provider networks.
- Participating in departmental hand-offs to ensure seamless care coordination.
- Communicating resource, insurance, and payment information to patients and families.
- Representing the Resource Specialist team on relevant committees and projects.
- Securing initial authorizations following payer rules for BCH and external behavioral health facilities.
- Reviewing clinical documentation to justify appropriate care levels and providing verbal presentations to payers if needed.
- Providing updated clinical documentation for BCH boarder authorizations.
- Serving as the primary contact for payers and state agencies to facilitate discharges.
- Working remotely, Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting with patient contact; behavioral health experience preferred.
- Strong analytical skills to resolve problems using scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
- Ability to coordinate discharge activities effectively.
- Knowledge of insurance plans and medical terminology.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records and familiarity with the behavioral health continuum of care.
- Resourcefulness in locating and utilizing information resources.
