This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (Spartanburg) 250 Dewey Avenue Spartanburg SC 29303.
The Office of Mental Health’s mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
Responsibilities for the Psychiatrist
- As a member of the treatment team, interview, diagnose and prescribe care and treatment of psychiatric patients. Prescribe medication, psychotherapy and provide evaluation of patients and consultation to other medical and non-medical staff; confers with and advises medical doctors, agency representatives, staff members in the care and treatment of the psychiatric patient. Under general supervision, exercise medical responsibility to identified patients and duties with both adult and child populations. Assist with the Center's overall analysis of broad problems and planning interested activities. Provide services in a culturally sensitive manner.
- See assigned patients, including adults, children and adolescents, provide psychiatric evaluation of patients, prescribe medications where indicated, offer consultation regarding the care and treatment; maintain compliance with federal, state, and local Corporate Compliance laws.
- Assign coordinates student rotations at the Center according to provider availability; prepares required documents (calendars, schedules, and other correspondence) for distribution. Liaison with contracted school(s) for students. Manages the evaluative process of the program. Updates the Medical Director annually and when necessary.
- Comply with all Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, and Cultural Competency policies, procedures, and regulations, and all federal and state laws, as well as training classified as mandatory by federal and state regulations. Engages in additional training to maintain professional development.
- Provides consultation for clinical staff and supervises staff in the medical aspect of treatment when needed.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved school of medicine and completion of three (3) years of residency in psychiatry with at least two (2) years of experience in a psychiatric program.
- Board certified.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Post-hire requirements
- Post-hire: successfully complete the Basic Fundamentals course with a minimum grade of 75.
- Be able to pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
- Be licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina.
- Perform all job duties and provide all services and documentation in compliance with CARF, OMH, CCMHC, Quality Assurance, Compliance, HIPAA, Transcultural and Productivity Standards, Policies and Procedures.
