Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding an Addiction Medicine Psychiatrist to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Medical Center. NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is a modern, state of the art, level 1 Trauma Center located in an attractive and safe residential Bronx neighborhood just 20 minutes north of Manhattan. It is affiliated with North Central Bronx Hospital and a teaching site and academic affiliate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. It offers a full continuum of Acute Care Inpatient and Outpatient Services in diverse medical and surgical specialties, including Psychiatry. The Department of Psychiatry has 89 adult acute inpatient beds, a CPEP, a C/L Service, an Adult Ambulatory Practice, and a Community-Based Assertive Community Treatment Program. The department employs evidence-based best practices in providing the highest quality care to its patients, in a patient-centered approach that is respectful of their individuality, culture, and community.

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding an Addiction Medicine Psychiatrist to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi Medical Center. Addiction Services at NYC Health + Hospitals comprise the outpatient addiction clinic, opioid treatment program, and addiction consult service. Specifically, Jacobi's Outpatient Addiction Services are led by a multidisciplinary team that provides medical, psychiatric, counseling, and recovery support services for individuals with substance use disorders (SUD), featuring an outpatient addiction clinic with a SUD walk-in clinic, with an integrated opioid treatment program underway. The team is supported by the Medical Directors and Clinical Directors of Addiction Services and mental health clinicians, addiction counselors, peer counselors, and community health workers. The mission of Jacobi's Outpatient Addiction Services is to improve patient access to and engagement in evidence-based care for SUD, including medications for addiction treatment, treatment of co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions, psychosocial counseling, care coordination, harm reduction, and peer advocacy.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The identified psychiatrist provides direct patient care and maintains focus on key strategic priorities including patient experience, access to care, increased market share, and improving financial stability across the SUD Services.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Medical Director of Addiction Services, provides clinical care for patients in the outpatient addiction clinic and opioid treatment program.
  • Conducts comprehensive psychiatric and substance use history with biopsychosocial assessment.
  • Diagnoses substance use disorders and non-substance related addiction disorders and recommends treatment that considers levels of care criteria.
  • Identifies mental health and medical conditions related to addiction care.
  • Orders and manages medications for addiction treatment, including for opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder.
  • Orders and manages pharmacotherapeutic interventions for co-occurring disorders as clinically indicated.
  • May administer medications in accordance with established policies/procedures and State and Federal regulations.
  • Provides opioid overdose education, naloxone training, and distribution of other harm reduction resources to patients and their friends and family.
  • Orders, reviews, and acts upon lab results and other medical data in a timely manner.
  • Conducts follow-up, facilitates care coordination, and makes appropriate referrals as necessary. Establishes therapeutic rapport with patients; uses motivational interviewing and enhancement therapy to engage patients in their treatment and recovery.
  • Observes confidentiality rules and respects the rights of patients.
  • Communicates clearly, accurately, and regularly with the multi-disciplinary treatment team, sharing ongoing assessment and impressions.
  • Identifies clinical issues to be addressed and recommends treatment goals, objectives, and interventions with expected time frames.
  • Monitors the progress of individuals in treatment and reviews the appropriateness of continued treatment and level of care.
  • Contributes to the completion of Treatment Plans and Utilization Reviews.
  • Participates in daily team huddles, regularly scheduled staff meetings and case conferences, and departmental Grand Rounds.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining an environment conducive to safe and quality patient care and the goals of the program by following all policies and procedures.
  • Assesses emergency situations (including suicide risk assessments with SAFE-T), identifies resources and/or assistance needed, takes appropriate actions in accordance with policies and procedures and calls for crisis code.
  • Participates in medical and behavioral codes as needed.
  • Completes incident and other reports as appropriate, participates in investigations, and implementation of recommendations for improvement.
  • Teaches and trains fellows, residents, and medical students rotating on addiction services as well as preparing didactic presentations as needed.
  • Assists with orientation of new physicians and staff in addiction services.
  • Adheres to clinical standards as outlined by area policies, standards of work, and regulatory compliance, including timely and accurate completion of visit documentation.
  • Assists medical leadership with Quality Assurance and Process Improvement projects as needed.
  • Provides coverage for other physicians across addiction services as needed.
  • Performs other duties as needed and assigned by the Medical Directors of Addiction Services or their designee.

  • Must be board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry.
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Must have completed residency training in an accredited program within Psychiatry.
  • Subspecialty Board Certified in Addiction Medicine (ABAM) or Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) (Current or anticipated within 4-years).
  • License to practice medicine in the State of New York.
  • Active DEA Registration including waiver to prescribe buprenorphine (Current or anticipated within 6-months).
  • At least one year of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services.

Wages and Benefits include:

Annual Base Salary: $255,900* (board eligible); $266,200* (board certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $420,590** (board eligible) and $434,920** (board certified), which includes the baseline salary, 401 (k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:

  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $104,000.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
  • Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
  • Generous Annual Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, Sick, Holiday, and CME days.
  • Medical, Prescription, and Dental Coverage: Top-tier plans with employee contributions significantly below market rates.
