Job summary

Garnet Health Medical Center Middletown is seeking a Psychiatric Technician for our Access Center. You will deliver direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and support patient flow in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate has BH experience, a high school diploma, and a current BLS certification; a psychology-related 2-year degree is preferred. Expect potential evening/weekend shifts and a 10 lb lifting requirement.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/equivalent; 2 year college degree related to psychology preferred.
• One year experience in Behavioral Health or related human services field required if no college background.
• Current BLS certification; crisis training within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.
• Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 10 lbs; flexibility for evenings or weekends.

Responsibilities

• The Psychiatric Technician performs assigned patient care tasks and related duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Contributes to a supportive, patient-centered environment within the Access Center team.
• Supports overall patient flow and care coordination as part of Garnet Health Medical Center Middletown.

The range for the role is $25.79 - $32.04 hourly.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

• High School Graduate/equivalent;
• 2 year College Degree related to psychology preferred

Minimum Experience:

• One year experience in Behavioral Health or related human services field required if no college background.

Required Certification/Registration:

• Current BLS certification.
• Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.

Physical Demands: Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patient. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.

Working Conditions: Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. May be exposed to unpleasant patient elements. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations and occasionally to irregular work hours.

• Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.
• Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.
• Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
