We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Staff Nurse to support the Child and Adolescent II (CA II) Department at our Oakland location, on the 5th Floor. The Child/Adolescent II unit is a new 12-bed facility specializing in behavioral and emotional problems of children and adolescents aged 13 to 18. The position involves day/evening shifts of 8 and 12 hours.

Starting Rate: GN level candidate at $33.25/hour (BSN at $34.75/hour). The rate may increase based on previous nursing experience.

Responsibilities:
  1. Perform nursing assessments and initial care plans within 8 hours of patient admission, including patient orientation and education.
  2. Document in medical records according to established policies.
  3. Maintain current knowledge of medication policies, including side effects, dosages, and patient responses.
  4. Administer medications safely and accurately, including transcription, administration, and documentation.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses through therapeutic interventions.
  6. Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches, adhering to nursing standards, policies, and legal requirements.
  7. Perform point-of-care testing such as glucose monitoring, urinalysis, and Hemocults.
  8. Effectively perform charge RN responsibilities.
  9. Participate in program development and performance improvement activities.
  10. Engage in interdisciplinary activities, including treatment teams, staff meetings, and committees.
  11. Follow research protocols as required.
  12. Maintain competency requirements and attend in-services annually.
  13. Mentor students and new employees.
  14. Utilize up-to-date technology in patient care delivery.
  15. Perform according to system-wide competencies and behaviors.
