UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Nurse to support the Dual Diagnosis (DD 10th Floor) Department at our Oakland location. Dual Diagnosis is an adult drug abuse and psychiatric treatment unit with a 26-bed inpatient service, focusing on treating adults with primary psychiatric disorders and co-occurring chemical dependency.

This position involves working evening/night rotations, with three 12-hour shifts.

GN level candidate starting rate: $33.25 (BSN $34.75).
Note: Starting rate may be increased based on previous nursing experience.

Sign-On Bonus Details
  • $15,000 sign-on bonus for nurses with over one year of experience
  • $12,500 sign-on bonus for Graduate Nurses and nurses with less than one year of experience
Responsibilities:
  • Perform nursing assessments and initial care plans within 8 hours of patient admission.
  • Educate patients regarding hospitalization.
  • Document in the medical record according to policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of medication policies, including side effects, dosages, and patient responses.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, including transcription, administration, and documentation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses through therapeutic interventions.
  • Manage crisis situations effectively with positive approaches.
  • Adhere to nursing standards, policies, ANA standards, WPIC policies, and the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose monitoring, urinalysis).
  • Fulfill charge RN responsibilities competently.
  • Participate in program development and performance improvement activities.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary activities, including treatment teams and staff meetings.
  • Follow research protocols as required.
  • Maintain competency requirements and attend in-services annually.
  • Mentor students and new employees.
  • Utilize up-to-date technology in patient care delivery.
