UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a dedicated Part-time Psychiatric Staff Nurse to support the Child and Adolescent II (CA II) Department at our Oakland location on the 5th Floor. The Child/Adolescent II unit is a new 12-bed unit specializing in behavioral and emotional problems of children and adolescents aged 13 to 18 years. This position involves evening/night shifts, 8 and 12 hours long.

GN level starting rate: $33.25 (BSN $34.75)

Starting rate may be increased based on previous nursing experience.

Responsibilities:
  1. Performs nursing assessments and initial care plans within 8 hours of patient admission; orients/educates patients regarding hospitalization.
  2. Documents in the medical record according to established policies.
  3. Maintains current knowledge of medication policies, including side effects, dosages, and patient responses.
  4. Administers medications safely and accurately, including transcription, administration, and documentation.
  5. Demonstrates knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses through therapeutic interventions.
  6. Manages crisis situations effectively using positive approaches, adhering to Nursing Standards, ANA Standards for Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, the Nurse Practice Act, and WPIC policies.
  7. Performs point-of-care testing such as glucose monitoring, urinalysis, and Hemocults.
  8. Performs charge RN responsibilities competently.
  9. Participates in program development and performance improvement activities.
  10. Engages in interdisciplinary activities, including treatment teams, staff meetings, and committees.
  11. Follows research protocols as required.
  12. Maintains competency requirements and attends in-services yearly.
  13. Serves as a mentor to students and new employees.
  14. Learns and utilizes current technology in patient care delivery.
  15. Performs according to system-wide competencies and behaviors.
