Job summary

Mountainview Behavioral Hospital seeks a Psychiatric Social Worker to provide psychosocial assessments, family education, case management, and group facilitation for admitted patients. The role includes collaborating with families and community providers, arranging aftercare, and documenting progress and treatment plans.

The candidate should hold a Master’s in Social Work, be licensed or eligible for New Jersey LSW/LCSW, and may participate in supervision and meetings.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work.
• NJ LSW or LCSW licensed or eligible.
• Ability to perform psychosocial assessments and document findings.
• Experience with family engagement and discharge planning.

Responsibilities

• Complete psychosocial assessments for new admissions.
• Obtain collateral information from families/community providers; maintain weekly contact.
• Provide basic psychiatric education to families about diagnosis and treatment.
• Make referrals for aftercare and housing supports as needed.
• Facilitate 3–5 mental health groups weekly on coping and psychoeducation.
• Prepare court reports for involuntary patients.
• Maintain weekly progress notes and treatment plan reviews.
• Attend daily/department meetings and weekly supervision.

Job description

DEFINITION

As part of the Social Work Department, and under the supervision of the Social Work Director, the Psychiatric Social Worker provides therapeutic interventions, education, and case management services to the patients admitted to Mountainview Behavioral Hospital

Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required. 1 evening per week required.

Essential Functions Include but are not Limited to:

• Completing Psychosocial Assessments on new admissions, including the completion of PHQ-9 depression scale, C-SSRS Assessments, and Social Determinants of Healthcare
• Obtains collateral information from family and/or community providers on every new admission. Additionally, maintains weekly contact with family/community providers during the patient’s admission.
• Provides basic psychiatric education to families about diagnosis, medication, treatment plans, goals, and aftercare.
• Makes referrals for aftercare, including follow up appointments and housing supports, when necessary
• Facilitates 3-5 mental health related groups per week, focusing on coping skills, symptoms management, psychoeducation, and other related topics.
• Completes court reports for involuntary patients.
• Maintains weekly progress notes and weekly treatment plan reviews on each patient throughout their admission.
• Attends all meetings, including daily report and monthly departmental meeting. LSW will be required to attend weekly Supervision.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of and familiarity with current social work practices and techniques.
• Ability to interview clients and others to obtain significant social, psychological, psychiatric, and other information needed for diagnosis and treatment.
• Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative histories of patients incorporating pertinent information from outside sources.
• Ability to comprehend economic, social, and emotional problems of persons who are physically and/or emotionally maladjusted or who are confined in an institution.
• Ability to provide explanation of services of the clinic to patients, families, social workers, teachers, and/or other concerned individuals, and to persons in need of psychiatric care.
• Ability to organize assigned social work and related duties and develop effective work methods.
• Ability to conduct discussions before lay and professional groups and to participate in conferences.
• Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
