Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Two years of prior experience within a behavioral health facility, corrections facility, healthcare facility or other related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Attends to escalating incidents promptly and identifies safety hazards.
  • Assists in re-direction and de-escalation of patient situations to prevent aggressive behavior, seclusion, or restraint.
  • Intervenes in patient, visitor and staff confrontations using least restrictive methods.
  • Engages patients with therapeutic activities and maintains a professional image and demeanor.
  • Supports and enforces Protective Service and unit policies.
  • Understands and adheres to emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation, and disaster plans.
  • Remains in assigned area and completes all duties; operates as part of a High Reliability Organization.

Job Description Summary

The Psychiatric Safety Officer is responsible for protecting patients, visitors, employees, and hospital property by rounding in behavioral health units, engaging patients and promoting a safe and therapeutic environment while working in collaboration with clinical teams.

Responsibilities And Duties

Promptly attends to escalating incidents and proactively identifies issues and acts appropriately to eliminate safety hazards.

Assists in re-direction and de-escalation of patient situations. Works to prevent aggressive behavior, seclusion, and restraint by utilizing the least restrictive methods, as indicated by the Aegis System Crisis Prevention and De-Escalation training, and Protective Services Training.

Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate using least restrictive methods, as indicated by The Aegis System Crisis Prevention and De-Escalation training.

Actively engages patients in therapeutic activities. Exhibits a professional image and demeanor. Utilizes interpersonal skills and customer service abilities to create a positive environment for patients and visitors.

Supports and enforces all Protective Service and unit policies.

Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation, and internal and external disaster plans.

Remains in assigned area and completes all specified duties.

As a High Reliability Organization (HRO), responsibilities require focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.
