POSITION SUMMARY:

Bluestone Child & Adolescent Hospital is looking to hire Psychiatric Registered Nurses who will providenursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, plans of care and therapeutic treatments. Psychiatric Registered Nurses must be knowledgeable about a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. In addition, Psychiatric Registered Nurses will performcrisis intervention and participatein the department’s performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. The PsychiatricRegistered Nurse position is a FLSA non-exempt role.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Utilizethe nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care considering patient age, diagnosis, and developmental level.
• Perform nursing assessments on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
• Adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizeappropriate pain management techniques. Educatethe patient and family regarding pain management.
• Formulateand implementpatient plans of care; family is included when appropriate.
• Revise plans of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluateoverall plan daily for effectiveness.
• Providecare appropriate to condition for pediatric or adolescent population.
• Observe and communicatepertinent information regarding patient mental status and behavior, occurrences, abnormal lab/diagnostic results, and/or negative response to treatment or intervention to physician and/or appropriate health care team members.
• Perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
• Possess knowledgeable of medications, including psychotropic drugs, and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition.
• Followthe seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
• Performpatient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age and developmental level.
• Engagein therapeutic relationships that focus on patient needs and provides a structured process for patients to reach objectives outlined in the plan of care.
• Demonstratethe ability to perform crisis intervention and triage.
• Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.
• Coordinateand supervisepatient care as necessary.
• Utilize verbal and physical de-escalation as warranted in order to keep patients safe and remain current in warranted certification and training.
• Demonstrateall applicable competencies for the position and participatein periodic re-evaluation of such competencies.
• Communicateappropriately and clearly to the Nurse Executive, co-workers and physicians.
• Conferwith members of the treatment team for the benefit of the patient.
• Consultother departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
