Duties and Responsibilities

Psychiatric nurses (RN) provide care for patients with mental health issues. They assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric conditions, working as part of a team to deliver comprehensive medical care.

• Assess the mental health status of patients with behavioral challenges
• Collaborate with medical providers and mental health staff in designing and delivering patient care
• Administer and monitor the effectiveness and side effects of psychotropic medications
• Assist patients and families in interpreting and managing maladaptive behaviors and planning healthy lifestyle changes
• Exercise sound judgment in evaluation situations and handle difficult or confrontational situations professionally
