The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner serves as a core member of Pratt Institute's new Integrated Student Health Center team, which combines medical and mental health services. This position is open only to a **Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)**, reflecting a commitment to flexible, high-quality, and evidence-based mental healthcare.
The Provider will deliver high-quality, culturally sensitive psychiatric care to a diverse and creative college student population, with a strong emphasis on integration and collaboration with primary care providers and counseling staff. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in young adult mental health and be enthusiastic about working within a holistic, coordinated-care model typical of a college setting.
Education: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from an accredited program.
Licensure: Current, unrestricted Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York AND a current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (NP) license with prescriptive privileges (DEA) in the State of New York.
Board Certification: National certification as a PMHNP (ANCC/AANP-certified). Other: Current, unrestricted Federal DEA license; current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification.
Clinical Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of full-time, post-licensure clinical experience.
Experience working in a college counseling setting or in a community mental health center is strongly preferred.
Clinical Specializations: Demonstrated expertise, knowledge, and professional interest in one or more areas relevant to a diverse college population, such as: trauma/sexual assault, substance use/harm reduction, men’s mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, identity development, or the unique needs of artists/designers.
Core Competencies: Demonstrated excellence in brief therapy models, crisis management, cultural humility, trauma informed approach and effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
Expertise in assessing and treating common mental health issues relevant to a rigorous academic environment (e.g., ADHD, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders).
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including proficiency in medical charting and correspondence using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, integrated healthcare environment. The ability to be clear, concise, courteous, concrete, and considerate in communicating.
