Freedom Support Services – Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)

Freedom Support Services is an outpatient mental health agency with a vision to heal people who heal the world. We are clinician centered and client focused. We are seeking a dynamic and creative Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Prescriber (PNP) who fits our company culture, shares the same philosophy on integrative health/wellness, and has proven experience in mental health management plans. This is a remote telehealth position. The practitioner will have support to get in front of insurance panels and can manage their own patient load, with a target of a minimum of 15 billable hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Assessment: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including medical history, mental status examination, and assessment of psychosocial factors contributing to the patient’s condition.
  • Diagnosis: Formulate differential diagnoses based on assessment findings and DSM-5 criteria.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, focusing on evidence-based interventions such as psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and other modalities as appropriate.
  • Medication Management: Prescribe psychotropic medications, monitor efficacy and side effects, and adjust dosages as needed to optimize outcomes.
  • Psychotherapy: Provide psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, supportive therapy) tailored to patient needs.
  • Crisis Intervention: Assess and manage psychiatric emergencies (suicidal/homicidal ideation, acute psychosis) with safety measures and coordination with emergency services as needed.
  • Collaboration and Consultation: Work with interdisciplinary team members to ensure care coordination and continuity of services.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, medication adherence, coping strategies, and community resources.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for patients’ rights and access to mental health services and promote mental health awareness within the community.
  • Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Continuing Education: Stay current with advancements through professional development and ongoing self-assessment of clinical competencies.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient safety.

Overall, PNPs play a crucial role in addressing complex mental health needs within a collaborative healthcare environment.

Requirements
  • Minimum 1+ years of full-time experience as a PNP; 3+ years strongly preferred
  • Fully Licensed in the State of Virginia
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field
  • Clinical experience with teens or adults with mental health issues (trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, etc.)
  • Certifications for MSN or DNP programs
  • State licensure
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, critical thinking; ability to work collaboratively
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage caseload, appointments, and follow-up
  • Problem-solving abilities; knowledge of cognitive/behavioral therapy concepts and clinical mental health practice
Preferred Requirements
  • 3+ years of PNP work in private practice or collaboration with mental health counselors
  • A collaborating physician willing to work with you
Benefits and Schedule
  • Part Time (minimum 15+ billable hours per week): liability insurance coverage; stipend for collaborating physician (if applicable)
  • Pay: DOE, hourly rate starts at $60/hour
  • Benefits: Fully remote; flexible scheduling; eligibility for benefits within 30-60 days depending on hours; bonus pay; professional development
