Job summary

Wellpath is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) for a full‑time Day shift in a corrections facility within the Mental Health department. You will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to incarcerated patients, including evaluations, treatment, and ongoing management.

The role requires a PMHNP board certification, an active PMHNP license, DEA and BLS, and at least 1 year of PMHNP experience. Corrections experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing or a Post‑Master’s PMHNP certificate.
• Minimum 1 year PMHNP experience.
• Corrections PMHNP experience preferred.
• Unrestricted current PMHNP license in the state of practice.
• Current PMHNP board certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluations, treatment, and follow‑up care with independent medical judgment.
• Monitor psychotropic medications, effectiveness, side effects, and required follow‑up.
• Collaborate with mental health, medical, and administrative teams to ensure consistent services.
• Complete timely clinical documentation and participate in meetings and on‑call coverage.
• Support crisis intervention, referrals, transfers, and involuntary treatment as allowed by scope of practice.

How you make a difference

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides a full range of psychiatric services to incarcerated patients in accordance with state scope of practice, collaborative protocols, and established policies. This role delivers direct psychiatric care while also providing clinical consultation to mental health and healthcare staff. The position works within state guidelines to support consistent, high-quality psychiatric services across the facility. Clinical consultation and supervision are sought as required under applicable collaborative practice requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluations, treatment, and follow-up care while exercising independent medical judgment.
• Monitor and manage psychotropic medications, including effectiveness, side effects, and required follow-up.
• Collaborate with mental health, medical, and administrative teams to ensure consistent psychiatric and mental health services.
• Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation and participate in required meetings, consultations, and on-call coverage.
• Support crisis intervention, referrals, transfers, and emergency or involuntary treatment processes as allowed by scope of practice.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

• Master in Science of Nursing or Post-Master’s Certificate from an accredited nurse practitioner program with a specialty in psychiatric mental health across the lifespan.

Experience

• Minimum one (1) year of experience as a PMHNP required.
• Corrections experience in a PMHNP role preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

• Unrestricted current license to practice as a PMHNP in the state of practice.
• Current board certification as a PMHNP.
• Current DEA Registration.
• Current BLS certification.
