Job summary

Southwest Network is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide outpatient psychiatric care to adults with serious mental illness at our Northern Star, Phoenix site. The role collaborates with psychiatrists, NPs, PCPs, pharmacists, nurses, case managers and peers in a team‑based model.

Responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, medication management (including clozapine and long‑acting injectables), and brief therapy as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Board-certified or eligible PMHNP.
  • Experienced in working with SMI populations, ideally in community mental health or comparable settings.
  • Psychologically-minded: skilled at medication management and integrating brief therapy.
  • Comfortable navigating complexity and energized by community mental health impact.
  • Team player who values collaboration.
  • Valid DEA certification.
  • Minimum 1 year in community psychiatry or similar setting.
  • Maintain CPR, First Aid, Therapeutic Options certifications.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Licensed by the State of Arizona and valid DEA Certification.
  • Accredited NP program with PMH Certification or ANCC Psy-NP.
  • Prescriptive authority after NP licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Ongoing psychopharmacologic management, including clozapine and long-acting injectables.
  • Integrate brief therapy during visits when appropriate.
  • Consultation with colleagues on complex cases.
  • Provide psychiatric care for Court Ordered Treatment cases as part of caseload.
  • Coordinate with primary care, pharmacy, and inpatient teams during transitions.
  • Opportunity to mentor residents during clinical rotations.

Description

You will provide direct psychiatric care to adults living with serious mental illness, including schizophrenia spectrum disorders, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and treatment‑resistant conditions. You will work alongside psychiatrists, psychiatric NPs, on‑site PCP, on‑site pharmacist, nurses, case managers, and peer support specialists in a collaborative, team‑based model.

Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnostic clarification, and treatment planning
  • Ongoing psychopharmacologic management, including clozapine and long‑acting injectable antipsychotics
  • Integrate brief therapy during visits as appropriate to maximize clinical outcomes
  • Consultation with colleagues on complex or treatment‑resistant cases
  • Provide psychiatric care for members on Court Ordered Treatment as part of your overall caseload
  • Coordinate with primary care, pharmacy, and inpatient teams during care transitions
  • Opportunity to mentor and teach psychiatry residents during clinical rotations at our site

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in community psychiatry or comparable setting preferred
  • Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Therapeutic Options (de‑escalation/workplace safety) certifications, offered through Southwest Network
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and vehicle insurance
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Licensed by the State of Arizona and valid DEA Certification
  • Completion of an accredited NP program with Psychiatric Mental Health Certification or ANCC Certified as Psy‑NP
  • Masters or better in Nursing or social science field or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
  • Experienced in prescriptive authority following NP licensure
