Position Overview

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Floater to floating provider offering cross‑coverage across the facility while delivering psychiatric care as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for assigned units and provide Staff On-Duty and Psych Backup coverage for hospital as scheduled.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing direct psychiatric care of patients on the assigned unit including: Psychiatric assessment; Patient and family interviews; Psychopharmacologic management; etc.
  • Planning and implementing psychiatric, medical, and behavioral rehabilitation treatment plans for patients on this service
  • Liaison with community mental health center staff in preparing and implementing patient discharge plans
  • Supervision of psychiatric nurse practitioner students
  • Reviewing of case formulations, treatment plans, documentation, and other activities of nursing students on the service
  • Reviewing orders, emergency decisions, and treatment plans made by others (ODs) for patients on the service

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of psychiatry at the Nurse Practitioner level, which is a post-graduate nursing level with special training in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment/therapeutics. The practitioner should also be knowledgeable about laboratory evaluations and laboratory monitoring of psychopharmacologic agents. Expertise in the application of nursing practices, ability to teach individuals and groups, consultation, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
