Job summary

NaphCare, Inc. seeks a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Washoe County Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center in Reno, NV.

You will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment plans under supervision of a psychiatrist in a secure correctional setting. Responsibilities include medication management, charting, emergency interventions, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

• Board certification as PMHNP in NV.
• Current and unrestricted RN license in NV.
• Current NP license in NV.
• DEA registration in State.
• Active BLS/CPR certification (AHA preferred).
• Experience with underserved populations.
• Strong communication with diverse individuals.
• Strong written and verbal communication; good computer skills.
• Strong assessment and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
• Adherence to Code of Conduct and facility policies.
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Job description

Overview

NaphCare is hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team of medical professionals in the Washoe County Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center in Reno, NV.

As a Correctional Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will work under the supervision of a psychiatrist, alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals, to provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for the facility residents. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have a variety of duties to keep you engaged. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health needs.

Responsibilities

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnosing mental health conditions to facility residents that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Additional responsibilities may include and not be limited to:

• Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with psychiatric disorders
• Medication management including prescribing, adjusting and discontinuing medication as needed
• Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes
• Responding to psychiatric emergencies, providing immediate interventions and safety protocols within the facility
• Coordinate, lead and participate in educational training activities related to mental health care
• Ensuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including correctional staff, psychologists, social workers and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans and ensuring staff are responsive to patients' needs

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

• Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)in NV
• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in NV
• A current DEA registration in State
• Must possess an active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
• Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disorders
• Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including other medical professionals and correctional staff
• Must possess strong written communication and verbal skills and have strong computer skills.
• Strong assessment and diagnostic skills
• Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
• Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
• Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
• Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
