Job summary

Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. seeks a Psychiatric Practitioner to join our correctional facility teams, delivering on-site psychiatric care, developing treatment plans, and coordinating with counselors for integrated care.

Requirements include an active US medical license (MD/DO/NP/PA in psychiatry), board certification, DEA registration, and experience in corrections or managed health care delivery; driving ability is needed for site coverage.

Qualifications

  • Must possess an active state license (MD/DO/NP/PA in psychiatry).
  • Board certification in psychiatry or related field.
  • Current DEA registration.
  • Experience in primary care, corrections, or managed health care delivery.
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the treatment team to deliver care to patients.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
  • Treat adults and adolescents; address dual diagnosis, mental health, and substance abuse.
  • Provide follow up psychiatric care to a caseload; improve outcomes and medication management.
  • Coordinate with counselors to integrate psychiatry and counseling.
  • Focus on patient safety, satisfaction, and access to care.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, and evaluate results.
  • Perform medical assessments within psychiatric parameters.
  • Be on-site at assigned correctional facility(s) regularly and see patients on-site.
  • Prescribe medications and treatment considering interactions and patient context.
  • Review records, sign orders, and comply with facility policies.
  • If off-site care is needed, arrange referrals with medical staff oversight.

Education

Active state medical license (MD, DO, NP, PA, Psychiatry)
Board Certified
Current DEA registration
Experience in primary care or corrections
Experience in managed health care delivery
Ability to drive
BLS certification

Essential Functions

  • The Psychiatric Practitioner works with the treatment team to deliver care to patients
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders
  • Patient population: Adults + Adolescents; dual diagnosis, mental health, substance abuse
  • Provide follow up psychiatric care to individual case load: improve patient mental health outcomes, medication management, address comprehensive mental healthcare needs
  • Team-based integrated care: coordination with counselors to integrate psychiatry & counseling
  • Thematic focus on patient experience: optimizing for safety, patient satisfaction and access to care
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, and evaluate treatment results
  • Perform problem-focused, individualized medical assessments within psychiatric parameters
  • Be physically on-site at assigned correctional facility(s) on a regular basis
  • Examine patients as needed. The expectation is that you stay on-site until all patients that need to be seen are seen.
  • Prescribe medication (including narcotics) and treatment within your prescriptive authority, as appropriate in your professional medical judgement, and without regard to cost. When prescribing, you should be mindful of things such as, but not limited to, medication adverse reactions, medication interactions, substance abuse issues, mental health disorders, comorbidities, allergies, pain level, vital signs, contraindications, drug monitoring, etc. in the context of the individual patient. You should prescribe medication for the appropriate duration of time, as determined by your professional medical judgement.
  • Review patient medical records, as appropriate
  • Sign off on orders, as appropriate
  • Comply with the correctional facility’s policies and procedures, unless doing so would be counter to common sense
  • If a determination is made that off-site care would be more appropriate for the patient, work with medical staff to send the patient off site or make appointments with the understanding that this can be overruled by the Sheriff/Jailer
  • Endeavor to attend a minimum of 1 ACH medical conference per year
  • Any and all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Must possess a current state license in the state in which services are to be provided (MD, DO, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant, Psychiatry)
  • Board Certified
  • Current DEA registration
  • Experience in a primary care specialty, corrections, and/or managed health care delivery
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; hands-on training
