Psychiatric Physician opening in Waterloo, IA - Cedar Rapids 55m; Des Moines 100m

Job Description:

• Full-time, permanent position
• Seeking a Psychiatrist to join our inpatient mental health team in Waterloo, IA
• Dedicated Medical Directorship hours
• 21-bed adult-only (ages 18 and up) Mental Health Unit
• 96% fill capacity
• Experienced team of 5 Advanced Practice Providers
• Support staff including safety techs, counselors, social workers, discharge navigators, and experienced nursing staff
• Telepsychiatry available on unit
• ED with dedicated behavioral health hallway (5 rooms)
• Advanced Practice Supervision
• Strong community mental health support
• Collegial practice environment supported by highly trained physicians, clinical staff, and administration
• Hospitalists consult in inpatient mental health
• Fully integrated system with clinics and hospitals using Epic EMR for care coordination

Responsibilities:

• Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations, follow-up treatments, and medication management for continuity of care
• Lead weekly mental health staff meetings (Monday-Friday, 8AM)
• Oversee strategic planning and provider management within the service line
• Develop best practices and collaborate with site leads and clinics
• Supervise and coach advanced practice providers on inpatient and walk-in clinics
• Support behavioral health services across inpatient units, walk-in clinics, ED, and medical floors
• Manage admissions, discharges, rounding, and discharge summaries
• Participate in treatment team activities, including plan development and review
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members on treatment plans and progress
• Participate in non-restrictive call during weekdays and be available by phone on weekends
• Exhibit excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Work collaboratively to improve community health outcomes

Qualifications:

• MD or DO, Board Eligible or Certified in Psychiatry
• Unrestricted license to practice in Iowa
• Current authority to prescribe and administer medications
• Eligible to work in the U.S. (H1-B cap exempt, J-1 waiver sponsorship available)
