Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - Adolescent Inpatient

Position Overview

Reporting to the Facility Medical Director, the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive behavioral health care to adult patients in inpatient or outpatient settings. The patient population includes adults with chronic mental health conditions served by the state’s mental health authority, with complex bio-psycho-social needs, possibly forensically involved.

Major Responsibilities

• Provide holistic behavioral health care, including psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, within the scope of practice and licensure.
• Prescribe psychiatric/medical medications.
• Monitor medication efficacy and side effects; perform AIMS testing as per protocol.
• Assess patients' capacity for informed treatment decisions.
• Collaborate with community providers for continuity of care and discharge planning.
• Participate in performance improvement and compliance activities.
• Order labs and diagnostic tests as needed.
• Conduct histories and physical exams.
• Communicate findings clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Make referrals and initiate treatments per policies.
• Document care in electronic medical records.
• Implement care safely and cost-effectively, following protocols.
• Evaluate and document patient progress and response.
• Refer to physicians or team members as necessary.
• Serve as a resource and provide instruction to other professionals.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• MSN or DNP in psychiatric mental health nursing; board-certified (PMHNP-BC).
• Unrestricted licensure as a PMHNP in Massachusetts.
• Ability to obtain Federal DEA Registration, Medicare, and Medicaid participation.
• Massachusetts Controlled Substance Certificate.

This position is 100% on-site at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital, 309 Belmont Street, Worcester, MA.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of prescriptive experience in child and adolescent psychiatry.

The Attending PMHNP will provide psychiatric care to adolescents in the Adolescent Continuing Care Unit (ACCU), including:

• Developing treatment plans for adolescents with complex mental health conditions at risk of or demonstrating self-harm or harm to others.
• Providing strength-based, trauma-informed, and trauma-responsive psychiatric care.
• Supporting recovery and collaborating with youth, families, and care teams to ensure active treatment and least restrictive environment.
• Offering psychopharmacology services aligned with current best practices.
