New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) seeks a Psychiatric/Mental Health Coordinator to join the Comprehensive Healthcare Center in Manhattan. This per diem position supports children in foster care with mental health services and administrative coordination.

The role requires a Master’s degree and PMHNP certification, plus at least two years of clinical experience. Strong EHR skills and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams are essential.

Responsibilities

• Prospectively follow all children in foster care, receiving mental health care and ensure all clinical and administrative needs are met related to that care.
• Review psychological and psychiatric evaluations and lead follow up on any referrals for care.
• Collaborate with intake coordinator to address immediate mental health needs.
• Conduct urgent psychiatric evaluations as needed.
• Conduct Spanish-language psychiatric evaluations as needed.
• Drive the process of obtaining consent for and addressing administrative barriers to receiving mental health treatment through collaboration with mental health clinicians, case planners, and parents as needed.
• Ensure referrals for medication management are followed through.
• Ensure all ACS protocols around mental health treatment are being followed in accordance with policies, procedures, and guidelines relating to seeking treatment, vital sign and lab monitoring requirements, and internal NAC procedures.
• Collaborate closely with staff in Foster Care, Mental Health, and Medical/Nursing departments.
• Enters data pertinent to these encounters in the paper record, evolving electronic health record, or both, as needed.
• Communicate effectively with all team members to support a cohesive work environment.

New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, chronic illnesses, and disabilities throughout the five boroughs. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Psychiatric/Mental Health Coordinator to join its Comprehensive Healthcare Center.

NAC operates a Comprehensive Healthcare Center comprising of an Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment Center, Article 29i Voluntary Foster Care Agency Clinic, and an Article 31 Mental Health Clinic, (collectively known as "the Clinic") where care is delivered in collaboration with NAC's outstanding teams of social workers, behavior specialists, education specialists, mental health professionals, physicians, nurse practitioners, and other staff. The clinics are located at NAC's main office on 825 7th Avenue in Manhattan.

Additional Tasks

• Provides clinical consultation and advocacy around mental health care needs to other departments (ex. Education, Foster Care)
• Supports grant-funded project related to staff readiness to respond to concerns of child sexual abuse (CSA)
• Keeps relevant knowledge up to date and applies it to everyday practice
