Qualifications

• Knowledge of professional nursing procedures; psychiatric or developmentally disabled nursing; employee training & development; state & federal regulations, policies & procedures as related to nursing; public relations; counseling.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Psych/DD Nurse Manager, performs general nursing and psychiatric care, including administration of physician-ordered medications and treatments.
• Assists in physical examinations; obtains and records vital signs.
• Documents in the medical record the administration of medication and treatments and other observations of client health status.
• Observes, evaluates and records client behavior and psychiatric symptoms; assists in feeding, grooming and self-care.
• Evaluates client and staff injuries and administers and records first aid as indicated; responds to medical emergencies (CPR).
• Develops, implements and evaluates client self-medication programs; provides health teaching to family and clients; orients and trains new nursing staff; supports shift reports and continuity of care.
