Job summary

Institute for Community Living Inc. in New York seeks a Registered Professional Nurse to deliver psychiatric and medical nursing services within a multidisciplinary team.

The role includes assessments, medication management, health education, and care coordination to support wellness for individuals served. Responsibilities include creating and evaluating nursing plans, collaborating across disciplines, guiding staff, and providing crisis intervention when needed.

Qualifications

  • Active NYS RN license and registration (required).
  • At least one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individuals with mental health conditions or developmental disabilities.
  • Additional behavioral health or psychiatric nursing training is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments addressing psychological, physical, social, cultural, and spiritual needs.
  • Develop, review, and evaluate nursing intervention plans aligned with each client’s treatment plan.
  • Ensure nursing plans reflect cultural and linguistic considerations.
  • Oversee implementation of nursing care and adjust plans as needed.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute nursing expertise to treatment planning.
  • Coordinate nursing care with other clinical disciplines to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Provide guidance to staff on nursing standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Offer health education and counseling to clients and families.
  • Participate in risk management and quality assurance activities.
  • Conduct counseling sessions under appropriate clinical direction.
  • Manage medical supplies, equipment, and medication processes.
  • Provide emergency care and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Monitor medication effects and side effects and document findings.
  • Lead health‑related groups and educational sessions on topics such as medication, wellness, coping skills, and behavioral health.
  • Serve as a mental health advocate in community activities.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
