Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is seeking a Psych Aide to provide direct patient contact and monitor responses to services. The role reports to the Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse and supports patient safety and high-quality care through direct care and effective crisis intervention.

The position requires a High School Diploma (GED preferred) and experience with mentally ill or addicted individuals or in personal care. Strong communication and emotional resilience are essential for success.

• Crisis Response Training CPR.

Responsibilities

• Provides physical, emotional, and/or cognitive patient care in a safe manner.
• Liaison with various departments to patient safety and quality care.
• Utilizes crisis intervention techniques.
• Performs environment and patient safety duties (room inspections, searches, monitor visitors for contraband).
• Communicates abnormal variances of physical data to appropriate staff.
• Relays emotional/cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating) to staff.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Psych Aide provides direct contact with each assigned patient to monitor responses to services & identify problem areas

SUPERVISION Reports directly to Nurse Manager andor Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILIES AND DUTIES

• Provides physical emotional &or cognitive patient care in an appropriate safe manner
• Liaison with various departments of LCMH to patient safety and quality care based on patient needs
• Diligent Training
• Utilizes effective crisis intervention techniques
• Demonstrates ability to conduct environment and patient safety duties ie room inspections patient search belonging searches monitor visitors for contraband
• Communicates abnormal variances of physical data vital signs pain etc to appropriate staff
• Emotional &or cognitive data tearful hallucinating etc to appropriate staff

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma

Physical DemandsWork Environment

Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time bending stooping and lifting The work environment may be physically confining Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds heart sounds and bowel sounds Ability to do shift work as requiredReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
