Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health is seeking a Psych Aide to provide direct contact with each assigned patient, monitoring responses to services and identifying problem areas. The role supports patient safety and quality care under the supervision of the Nurse Manager.

You will perform physical, emotional, and/or cognitive patient care, coordinate with hospital departments, implement crisis intervention techniques, and help maintain a safe treatment environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• Sufficient experience in working with mentally ill persons, addicted persons or in providing personal care services.
• Crisis Response Training, CPR.
• Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
• Requires emotional stability and resilience.
• Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight.
• Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
• Shows ability to gain & maintain support and respect of co-workers.

Responsibilities

• Emotional &/or cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating, etc.) to appropriate staff.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Provides physical, emotional &/or cognitive patient care in an appropriate, safe manner.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

• Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
• The work environment may be physically confining.
• Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
• Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
• Ability to do shift work as required.
