Overview of Position - Psych (Mental Health) Technician

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our healthcare team at University Behavioral Center, located in Orlando, Florida. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of patient care practices under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The role involves monitoring patients and facilitating group activities in units, working closely with individuals experiencing psychiatric disorders to ensure safety, comfort, and well-being while promoting recovery and rehabilitation. Previous experience in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program is highly preferred. We are currently hiring for Day and Night Shift/Full Time.

Responsibilities
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse or Milieu Manager to provide clerical and patient care activities in the treatment and care of patients with psychiatric and substance abuse conditions.
  • Manages behavioral problems through patient observation and de-escalation techniques.
  • Facilitates education and activity groups.
  • Actively participates as a member of the treatment team and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification.
  • At least one year of experience working in an inpatient hospital setting with patients aged 5-65+ years.
  • Work hours: 12-hour shifts; day or night shift available; rotating weekends.
Skills
  • Experience with behavioral health patients is preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient care principles is beneficial.
  • Ability to take vital signs accurately.
