Job summary

Safariland is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary team through design, development, production, testing, operation and maintenance of components and tooling. You will drive projects from concept to delivery, manage staffing and budget, and ensure quality and regulatory compliance.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a proven track record in project management within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering or related field is required.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience relevant to the role.
  • 3+ years of project management experience.
  • Experience with CAD systems (AutoCAD/SOLIDWORKS) and MS Project.
  • Ability to lead internal personnel and manage subcontractors.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team across design, development, production, testing, operation and maintenance.
  • Oversee project lifecycle from conception to delivery and installation.
  • Coordinate engineering staffing, resources, and hiring; track KPIs for team health.
  • Develop technical proposals, cost estimates, and project documentation.
  • Engage with production orders from contract review to shipping and QA.
  • Provide advanced technical support and mentorship to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with NQA-1 and maintain safe, clean work environment.

Summary

Manage and lead multi‑disciplinary engineering team throughout all phases of the design, development, production, testing, operation, and maintenance for components, equipment, and tooling while conforming to NQA‑1 requirements. Provides significant input and insight to manager and project managers on engineering effort related to the production of engineering designs and products, improves project performance by implementing lessons learned, and manages engineering staffing/resource needs and hiring. Oversees the full life cycle of technical projects, from conception to delivery and installation. Supports existing/installed products as needed.

Essential Job Functions
  • Service accounts for assigned customers, including:
    • Quoting and technical proposal development
    • Project management
    • Customer communication
    • Vendor liaison
    • Scheduling
    • Assembly and testing (as needed)
    • Quality functions
    • Documentation
  • Responsible for proposal development, engineering, costing and technical descriptions
  • Responsible for engineering & production documentation for assigned projects
  • Engagement with various core production orders from contract review to shipping
  • Review project drawings/instructions to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions, such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies
  • Leverage significant industry experience to review and approve design drawings as required
  • Develop/test equipment and apply knowledge of engineering technology with minimal oversight
  • Provide input into project drawings/instructions to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, including possible solutions, such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies
  • Define, implement, and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to determine engineering team health
  • Mentor and transition advanced industry knowledge to applicable stakeholders
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Manages direct reports including technical resources
  • Responsible for project delivery including coordination of all project resources
  • Performs 1‑on‑1's and responsible for direct reports performance and development, 3‑8 direct reports
  • All other duties as assigned.
Product Support
  • Provide advanced technical support on projects with minimal oversight
  • Manage engineering team workload, including assigning project tasks, managing resources, implementing key decisions, and creating estimates as needed
  • Work with Procurement and Facilities who will be leading the purchasing of materials and scheduling of parts (common and procured) to ensure all are being managed and flows smoothly
Essential Job Requirements
  • Knowledge of project management principals involved in coordinating, scheduling and directing projects.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals for production of technical plans, drawings, models and ultimately fabrication and testing as needed.
  • Knowledge of various quality assurance requirements as they apply to PSC products and design control.
  • Ability to lead and direct internal personnel and subcontractors to ensure project fulfillment.
  • Creative, analytical, detail‑oriented, with good hands‑on skills, and ability to work on and lead teams
  • Strong communication and administrative skills
  • Strong organizational skills and be detail oriented
  • Strong ability to review and/or update budgetary and financial analyses/summaries
  • Stay current on all training
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • BS in engineering or related technical field
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in relevant field
  • 3+ years of Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of CAD systems, including AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS
  • Microsoft Office and Project tracking experience
  • Able to function in a dynamic fast‑moving environment
Qualifications and Education Preferences
  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with experience in industrial controls and knowledge of industrial power systems
