PS Nuclear Medicine Tech (PRN)

Job Summary

This position performs diagnostic PET‑only procedures to supporthigh‑quality patient care and accurate clinical decision‑making.The technologist adheres strictly to all radiation safety policies,regulatory standards, and institutional protocols to ensure thesafety of patients, staff, and themselves. Serving as a liaisonbetween the patient and physician, this role guides patientsthrough the imaging process, provides education and reassurance,and facilitates effective communication within the care team. Thetechnologist may be required to access and administer medications,including radiopharmaceuticals, within their scope of practice andin accordance with state law and organizational policies. Thisposition supports both clinical and research imaging, requiringstrong attention to detail, adherence to study protocols, and theability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

Radiopharmaceutical Preparation & Administration

• Administers radiopharmaceuticals by IV injection, inhalation, ororal administration following established protocols and stateregulations.
• Calculates required radiopharmaceutical activity and volumeaccording to prescribed procedures.
• Assays radiopharmaceutical doses, prepares standards inscintillation counting systems, performs required calculations, anddocuments results.
• Maintains full compliance with radiation safety policies,including documentation for the receipt, administration, storage,and disposal of radioactive materials.

Clinical & Research Imaging

• Performs clinical and research PET imaging procedures, includingbreast imaging research, according to protocol and physicianorders.
• Prepares equipment and instrument sets for imagingprocedures.
• Positions patients accurately to achieve high quality, diagnosticgrade images.
• Verifies scan quality and performs computer-based image and dataprocessing.
• Optimizes imaging techniques and uses appropriate judgment tomaximize image quality.

Patient Care & Communication

• Explains imaging procedures to patients, ensuring understandingand reducing anxiety.
• Monitors and communicates patient status to the appropriatephysician or care team.
• Serves as a liaison between physicians and patients,communicating special needs, clinical changes, or procedurerequirements.

Equipment Operation & Quality Control

• Performs and documents quality control checks on imaging systems,dose calibrators, radiation detectors, and safety monitors.
• Identifies equipment issues and reports findings promptly toensure ongoing performance and radiation safety compliance.

Laboratory & Operational Support

• Assists in maintaining laboratory inventory, including orderingsupplies and restocking as needed.
• Ensures proper care, cleanliness, and maintenance of imagingequipment and work areas.
• Functions independently and collaborates effectively withcoworkers, coordinating patient needs and procedure workflow withphysicians and other clinical staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the Universityof Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within30 days of hire.
• Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in theState of Utah.

One of the following:

• Nuclear Medicine Technician Certification.
• Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)
• ARRT Registration as Nuclear Medicine Technology R.T.(N)(ARRT).

Training and/or experience in the latest techniques of radiationsafety, radiopharmaceutical preparation and computer processingtechniques to perform patient examinations.

Preferences

Preferred qualifications:

• While ARRT (N) or NMTCB (CNMT) are required immediately uponhire, the candidate will be asked to obtain ARRT (CT) or NMTCB (CT)within one (1) year of hire.
• Training and/or experience in the latest techniques of radiationsafety, radiopharmaceutical preparation and computer processingtechniques to perform patient examinations.
• At least 2 years experience working as a nuclear medicinetechnologist

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlinedabove.
• Demonstrated human relation and effective communicationskills.
• Ability to provide care appropriate to the populationserved.
• Proficient in the use of the PACs system to retrieve and archivedata. Performs all RIS functions (scheduling, completing, etc), asappropriate.
• Demonstrates the ability to properly identify and administerradiopharmaceuticals.
• Additional licenses may be determined by the hiringdepartment.
