Within the Parks|Recreation|Tourism Department, this position performs technical repair on a variety of park, recreation and historic site furnishings, fixtures, amenities, structures, power equipment and vehicles. Performs related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent; two years’ work experience with demonstrable skills in the operation, repair, and maintenance of small equipment, both diesel and gasoline type engines and hydraulic equipment; and two years general maintenance experience, i.e., carpentry, plumbing, painting, welding, metal fabrication, electrical work. Must possess a valid State Class A Commercial Driver’s License; or must possess a valid State Commercial Driver’s License-Class A Permit and obtain license within the first six months of hire. Must be 18 years of age. Must obtain CPO and CPSI certificates within first twelve months of hire. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in small vehicle and engine equipment maintenance and repair; small vehicle and engine equipment, to include hydraulics, both gas and diesel; various electrical systems of gasoline and diesel engines, and plumbing maintenance and repair procedures. Basic computer skills and ability to multitask. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to bend and lift 75 lbs. plus or minus 25 lbs.
95% of work is performed in the field with exposure to extreme heat and cold and adverse weather. 5% of work is performed indoors.
Drug testing, background check, and physical abilities testing may be required for further consideration on this position.
